Visual Inspection: The first step in PAT testing is a thorough visual inspection of the appliance, its plug, and the cable. This inspection looks for obvious signs of damage, wear and tear, or misuse.  

Equipment PAT Testing: Depending on the appliance, various electrical tests may be performed using specialised PAT testing equipment. These tests can include an earth continuity test, insulation resistance test, polarity check and other functional checks.   

Documentation and Records: After testing, each appliance is usually labelled with a sticker indicating it has been tested, the date of the test, and the next test due date.
